Maybe it's not the hotel internet. Maybe your machine was Trojaned and is now too busy sending out Spam to bring up your web pages.

For most purposes, the choice of wired/wireless is not an issue at all for speed. Not too many hotels have broadband connections that have greater bandwidth going out of the hotel than the internal wireless. I suppose there could be some room to room transfers but I would think those are pretty few and far between.
