SMTP Servers
SMTP Servers
I'm having a lot of trouble using my ISP's SMTP server for sending emails to certain address in Asia and when traveling in some locations. In some cases it seems that my ISP's SMTP (netfirms) is being blocked as spam by some of my client's ISP so I can not send directly to them without the email being bounced back. However when I send to the same address from gmail then it goes through so I am pretty sure its my ISP's SMTP server that is the problem.
I know that there are other options out there. Any recommendations? I'm willing to pay for the best option if needed but of course free is better....

Blacklisted?
I'm having a similar problem with one of my hosts.
Apparently the IP address that I now have is listed in the sorbs.net block list.
Many email hosts use these blacklists to filter spam.
They have instructions for how to get your IP address removed, but it all seems like a pain in the ....
Another site I have on a more reputable hosting company has never had such a problem.
I'm thinking of moving over for the few bucks extra a month. I know it's not a guarantee, but I also get better support and a better webmail interface.
The e-mail issue is just the final straw...

It might not be a very good solution, but gmail offers pop3 & smtp access.

The bad part is that it will display your gmail alias.
To get around hotel port blocking I've set up a Linux VPN & mailserver at home which works great but requires a bit of time to manage it all.

Trying to get off spam cops list is like trying to get off the terrorist watch list - its not going to happen regardless of what they claim. The Anti Spammers are now as annoying as the Spammers....
Any way, I signed up with smtp.com and sent some test messages to China to see what happens. It usually takes about 24 hours to get a rejections - fingers crossed.
I'll post my results.
