Why do i have to keep changing my MTU setting?

I have a Netgear rangemax router, and every so often( maybe twice a week) i can not load certain sites, Flyertalk and google being the main ones and so it is very annoying.

I have googled and found out about MTU settings on the router, and my ISP recommends 1430, but even on this setting i still have to lower it maybe to 1300 and sometimes higher it to 1500 for usually a day at the most then i will have to change back.

Can i do anything at my end to stop this happening or is it my ISP?
