Bag for 17" widescreen laptop?

Can anyone suggest what bag to buy for a 17" widescreen laptop (physical measurements 15.5" x 10.8" x 1.4")?

If looked at the Samsonite XL45 and it seems pretty good but a bit expensive ($50+).

Any other brands and models I should consider?

Targus

Targus has two bags. One is a standard computer bag for the 17 inch and the other is a travel bag/computer bag. The second one has a compartment that can hold enough cloths for a few days of travel. the second bag however is hard to fit into any overheads in the regional jets. The second bag is around $100 but dont recall the price fo the first one. I have seen it at Best Buy and I think also at CompUsa.

I've been happy using the Kensington Contour Pro 17" for my 17" HP ZD7000. It's a bit on the large side (as are my computer and its power brick) but I find it very easy to use and organize with room for everything.

Here's a review with some photos:

It won't fit overhead on a regional jet, but I've had it stuffed with two laptops, peripherals, file folders, and other items and it did fit under the seat in front of me with just enough room for my feet beside it.

$50 doesn't seem like much for a large notebook computer bag compared to many I've seen -- they tend to be expensive!

You might want to check the sale selection at places like ebags.com. I think it'll be slim pickins at $50. 17" bags are less common, so only the better manufacturers tend to make bags for them.

Brenthaven is one of my favorites, but it's around $150, I think. For an informal bag, Tombuk2 is good. Other favorites include Tom Bihn, Waterfield Designs, Marware, InCase, STM, Briggs and Riley, etc.

Many like to get bags from Costco and seem to find them at a good price/value there.

A good site for reviews of several laptop bags is bagreview.com.

happy hunting!

I just bought myself a Crumpler "The Cashmere Blazer" bag for my 17 inch MacBook Pro. I'm really impressed with the solid construction of this bag, tons of space inside, lots of pockets, the laptop sleeve well padded, very heavy duty shoulder strap with cushion, even an special strap that keeps the bag from flipping around when you have to run with the bag (ie catching a short connection at the airport). I'll report further when I try it out on a flight next week. I just have to be careful not to pack too much in there, or it won't fit in the overhead compartment of the RJ!

Wow, could Crumpler make their site a little harder to use? Too esoteric for me.

LOL, yeah, their website is a bit "different" but all you have to do is click on the "puppet/horsie/monkey/bunnie/chicken/whatever you call it" on the bottom left (the chicken is my favourite one, crank the volume! :-: ), and drag it across to the right to reveal the appropriate icons of the different products they have. Computer bags is on the bottom left.

Oh, you may want to exercise caution when clicking on the red "nards" button on the bottom right, you have been forewarned! Click and drag down on the chain above it to tidy things up!

Mark another vote down for Crumpler bags.

I have 6 of their bags now, and they are fantastic. One of the six is "The Crisp Suit", and it will fit your 17" widescreen.

I got so fed up with their website they lost a bulk purchase from me for being unable to research bag specs.
