BlackBerry 8707g™

Can this model be purchased in the US? I am looking for a Berry that works in Japan, and I heard this fits the bill.

Did you do a search on google for re-sellers? I'm sure there are quite a few that have them available, albeit at a price.

I posted re HK provider with pricing if you do a search (i think on european sim sticky thread?), should find it.

Another alternative, although I wouldn't for such a high price item is eBay.

I am not positive but the email feature will only work with a service provider is what I have been told

Yes, BDLORD, I think that's right. Need a service provider to in the US to make it work (like T Mobile or Cingular).

Yep that's true for both email and regular voice service. You can buy it unlocked and then pick your poison - TMO or Cingular. But then when you hit Japan or Korea where gsm doesn't work, you're UMTS/3G kicks in and you're still getting email.

Btw, did you get new mac set up with win xp?
