Question Web Based Pop3/Outlook Type Mail Manager

I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to access a few Pop3 mail accounts from a web-based mail system. I need the system to not only allow me to download and read mail, but also send outgoing mail. I have not been able to find a solution that allows my outgoing mail to work on all networks (I guess there is something that has to be "open" on a network).

I assume you are looking for free email accounts with pop3. Suggest you check www.emailaddresses.com and explore the various options there...
Caution- a lot of free email providers are financially unstable - and are known to shutdown abruptly.

Of-course, if you pay, there'll be a lot of options - get your yahoo email to pop - OR, get your own domain name - and activate your own domain email, e.g. [email protected]

good luck (- hope i understood your question!)

To clarify, I'm not looking for pop3 email, I'm looking for a web-based program that will allow me to download, read and reply to pop3 e-mail (I own a few domains with pop3 mail). It doesn't have to be free, I absolutely no problem with paying for a service that works well.

Ken, sorry, Im still not exactly sure what you want. By web based I usually think of something like Yahoo mail or gmail. Both of these I think can have multiple addresses forwarded to them, but I dont think that you can download mail, use it offline, and then reconnect to send the replies or whatever. For downloading and doing stuff offline, then connecting to send I think of not a web based product but a client like Eudora or Outlook. Am I making sense explaining this? Or am I confused? I seem to recall a while ago that you were using a Mac. They have a built in mail program that I think works fine with web based mail hosts. Also, Eudora is a great program for the Mac (I think there is a PC version as well).

I personally use Outlook on PCs and Entourage for work mail since we have an Exchange server. For personal I have both Yahoo (paid version - $20 per year) and Gmail. I dont download from these but use them online. My wife downloads her personal email to her Mac mail client from her Yahoo address. Again, she has the $20 a year paid one since that allows you to use it as a POP server.

Let me try again. I have a PC (my wife has the Mac) with MS Outlook that I use to manage my pop3 mail accounts. Depending on the wi-fi connection, I'm not always able to "send" my mail using MS Outlook. I'm looking for some sort of program/client that will allow me to use any computer in the world with a web browser, log in to that client, download and view my pop3 mail from different domains (i.e.: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]) - just like I'm able to do with MS Outlook, only web based. It should also allow me to send e-mail using whatever identity I choose (i.e. from #1, 2 or 3 above).

Am I sounding like more of 'tard or making it clear?

Try enabling authentication on your outgoing SMTP

If the only problem you are having with Outlook is sending or replying to your email then try enabling authentication on your "outgoing" SMTP mail server's settings. Many SMTP servers don't allow email relay which you are trying to do when replying or sending emails while not on your "home" network.

No, that is clear now. I think the suggestion above is a good one. It sounds like either an Outlook setting or a setting on your email host(s). I use outlook and havent had this problem. Perhaps some others that are more Outlook experts can chime in?

Folks, TMK is NOT looking to use Outlook all the time to check his mail. He's looking for a web-based solution for his issues.

Doing a quick Google search, I found these two apps...

http://www.gunnar.cc/mailman.html (looks a little sketchy; not sure if you can access mutiple POP3 accounts with one subscription)
http://www.runbox.com/

Another nice site...

Actually, I forgot I had an account with this one...

gmail will do this for you too. It will even "spoof" your address so that it looks like the mail is coming from the e-mail address of your choice. You can have multiple "from" addresses. Pretty neat.

If you have your own server you could get squirrelmail to do this for you. There are plugins to grab mail from a pop3/imap server hosted elsewhere... Check out squirrelmail.org ...
