OnStar: Locking doors.

How many times have you wondered if you've locked the doors to your vehicle?

This was exactly my dilemma tonight, and I didn't want to drive another 40 minutes just to check. For some reason I thought to call OnStar. I mean, in my head, if they can unlock doors, they can lock them too, right?

Well, sure enough they can ^. I called, IDed myself, and they said my truck would locked in about 10 minutes. They also took down my phone number to call back and confirm that it's been locked, which they did.

So, next time your OnStar-equipped vehicle is sitting at the airport lot unlocked, there's no need to worry.

The fire department can take care of that for you.

Thanks so much for the "tip", I have never used the "Unlock" the car door feature on my vehicle as of yet, but it is good to know that Onstar can Lock as well as Unlock the car door. That's good to know!!! ^

LOL!

Thanks for the Onstar tip - good to know the $15/month I'm paying may eventually be good for something!

LOL...WOW

With all the bad paper GM is writing on their vehicles, I'm sure this will happen more and more often. Make the repoman's job very easy.

My onstar story was with a Hertz Caddilac XLR. I locked the "keyless" RF keyfob in the trunk and after 2 hours of phone tag with Hertz and Onstar they were able to open it. Of course it was storming, we were standing in the Epcot center parking lot, people would walk by and snicker at our fancy electronic car, and we were late for our flight.

Has anyone found our if that lockup story is correct or just a roumor?

I am sitting here giggleing uncontrollably at the thought of it, although if it happened to me I would be horrified I am sure!

Hilarious! Would make a great spoof on SNL! What if they did a skit where OnStar would come on and not let you start the car if it didn't like what you were wearing- "Not those pants, they make your butt look big!" I think I need more coffee or sleep- getting too silly just thinking about it!

ROFLMAO!

I Googled and Googled, and couldn't find any other reference to it. OnStar gets alot of crap and I'm almost sure this is just someone trying to put them in a bad light.

Edited to add: Per OnStar's T&C:
26. OUR RIGHT TO TERMINATE OR SUSPEND YOUR OnStar SERVICE.
...we can terminate your service if you breach any part of this agreement, don't pay amounts that are due to us or one of our service providers...

No mention made of holding your car hostage if you fail to pay up.

Don't know if it's true or not. Definitely funny though.
