There are a couple of things you need to do if you travel a lot. Get a spare battery! That is if you can get hold of one as apple seem to be out of stock in various countries. The batteries for all MB & MBP models will suddenly and unexpectedly die. One hunt might be that the laptop is running very very hot. So hot that even resting your hands on top of it is uncomfortable.

The next thing is to go to a repair centre and have the logic board run through a diagnostics test. Don't quote me on the following but I heard a whisper about a logic board recall on early issues. Mine is a 1.83 GH model and now has a brand new logic board that was shipped with os x 10.4.6 discs as that version is required. I'm waiting for a battery.

Another thing my laptop did before getting fixed was draining the ipod battery instead of charging it.

Just be careful so you don't lose any data.
