Verizon CDMA compatibility

As a verizon customer I can use my phone here in Canada easily with great coverage (on Telus, which is owned by Verizon anyway). How about outside of North America? Any countries that use CDMA (I presume not many) and the ones that do, is my number just portable and automatically usable like when I travel up here to Canada? Or is there activation and other PITA procedures to follow?
