Need help with Blackberry

My son dropped my Blackberry on the floor and the trackwheel got pushed in. I opened it up and try to set it right but to no avail. Seemed like a little piece was broken and missing. It's no longer under warranty and T-mobile said that they would replace mine with an upgrade to 8700 for $299. Is there a less costly way, say just to fix the trackwheel on my old 7230?

Ebay

Hate to say it, but Ebay will probably have an unlocked, or possibly locked T-Mobile BB for you. They're definitely cheaper. Just make sure that BB was not reported lost or stolen. Ask the buyer for the PIN number and contact T-Mobile to see if there's any account balances on it.

Another option is to start a new T-Mobile account, and get the discount, though you'll lose your phone number that way.

Or bite the bullet and go to Cingular and transfer your phone number over, assuming you are already out of contract so you won't pay an early termination fee.

Good luck!

P.S. A quick check on Ebay w/ Blackberry 7230 showed ALOT of them for under $100.

Personally, I've been lusting for an 8700. I would use this as an opportunity.

This is an $80 repair.

http://www.blackberryrepairshop.com/...pair-72xx.html

Not really worth it IMHO, I just sold my old 7290 and 7730 for 140 and 120 resp.

Check ebay for Blackberry handhelds, or go with the 8700 T-mobile offered you (which is weird, as it isn't officially launched yet, and isn't expected till April 13th).

Thank you, luv2ctheworld.

I wouldn't have known to check the PIN and account balances.

Appreciate your suggestions!

Thanks for the info.
All things considered, think I will go with the upgrade.
Thank you all for your wonderful help.

That's interesting. I haven't seen any T-Mobile 8700s yet. If you're looking for an upgrade to the latest and greatest, this is a good upgrade.

T-Mobile usually has a $75-$100 out-of-warranty repair charge on most BlackBerries.

If you want to keep your accessories, etc. I would look at the 7290--it has enough memory to run the latest operating system and a much better backlight.

You're right, just checked with T-mobile rep re upgrade. This time I was offered only the 7290 and they weren't sure when they would expect the 8700, probably later in summer.
Perhaps I will repair it for now and upgrade later when the 8700 becomes available.

Got another question. Had to get a new 8700g and now my email isn't reconciling correctly. Everything shows up on the BB when I delete it from either Outlook or Gmail. Also, if I send a message from either Outlook, Gmail or BB, it shows up on the BB screen as a "new message".

I have gone to "options" and clicked the "hide sent messages" and "hide filed messages" to no avail. Turned off and back on to see if that helped. It's driving me nuts. It won't even manually reconcile when you click that option.

Any help?

If you're using T-Mobile BIS then you can go o your online account on t-mobile and set up a filter. I did that and it worked for me.

No, I got a replacement from ebay because I didn't want to hastily commit to a new 2-year contract. Now I have time to review the products and am ready to upgrade.

Is there something wrong with the 8700?
