The new Apple Mac Firebook!

http://wiredblogs.tripod.com/cultofm...try_id=1437672

Between this and the whining problem I think it is safe to say Apple's oh-so-super high quality is taking a bit of a blow...

If this exploding power connector turns out to be an issue requiring a recall then they are in for a real problem...

I read in one of the blog comments that a cat peed on the connector? Is that true? If that's what happened, I'm not sure how fault lies with Apple.

If it is poor manufacturing, then it's definitely not welcome news for Apple. Sounds like Apple took troubleshooting the problem in the pictures pretty seriously and had people looking into the issue before the owner even contacted Apple. IMHO, it's nice to see a company being proactive ^

I read the blogs too, and it still isn't clear what happened. It seems like the "cat pee" theory was brought up when someone on the original Dutch blog said "da's geen kattepis", which when translated contains the word "cat pee", but in Dutch means "that looks pretty serious".

Nevertheless; even if it is cat urine; no amount of liquid should be able to cause that much damage, the power supply should have sufficient protection to simply shut down, not set itself on fire.

I dunno about you guys, but we have 4 cats, and if they ever piss outside the litter box, things look pretty serious for all of them.

You mean apart from the recall of the AluBook 15" batteries, the iBook logic board problem, the power supply noise on the PowerMac G5, the class-action suit over the inferior iPod 3G battery, the scratchy screen on the iPod nano, the cracks/lines in the case of the Cube, the flaky paint on the TiBooks ... and ... and ...
