Sharper Image purchase experience
Background: I ordered the Bose headsets from Sharper Image. The order was supposed to come with a free cd player which I didn't really care about. When the package arrived, I received two CD players but no headset.
-----
First attempt to contact SI was by phone on Saturday. I was informed that they do not have customer service on Saturday. I asked them (the non-existent customer service rep who answered the phone) why the documentation that came in my package indicated they did have customer service on Saturday. No coherent answer was given.
------
Sent this email immediately afterward:
I received a package that contained 2 Bose Portable CD Players and DID NOT INCLUDE the product I ordered -- the Bose Headphones (JS304SLV). Please ship the headphones as soon as possible as I ordered these to have for an upcoming trip and need them by March 10, 2006.
If you need to reach me, I can be contacted at:
-------
Received this reply more than the promised 24 hours later (admittedly not much more than 24 hours maybe 36).
Dear #######,
Thank you for your email regarding order number ######.
We are happy to assist you with your concern. Our records indicate that the package that was shipped matches the weight of the items that was delivered. Since the package was signed for by ##### (doorman), we are sorry to inform you that we are unable to resend the BOSE QuietComfort 2 Noise Cancelling Headphone (JS304SLV).
If you would like to contact your credit card company on this, please feel free to do so.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you. If we can be of any further assistance, you're welcome to contact us again at any time.
Sincerely,
######

Glad to see they agree you should just disupute the charges. That alone should be evidence enough for the CC company.
Take your money elsewhere and order from a company that does care about its customers.
A company that thinks it knows exactly what it ships based on the weight is simply insane.

I just got mine from Diners Club. The box contains two same-size and probably similar-weighted white boxes. One with the cd-player and one with the headphones. Somebody mis-packaged yours.
You might want to start with an actual phone conversation with Sharper Image to see if you can just return what they shipped for credit, explaining what you received. If they still deny you the ability to return it (I think SI has a pretty liberal return policy) or decline to give you credit for returned item, then you can dispute the charge. You really need to do your own due diligence first, even though the person that sent you that email is a bozo.
I was surprised to get the cd player, since the DC catalogue doesn't mention it.

I suggest that you call them and speak to a live customer service rep.
When they still sold the Apple iPod nano, I ordered it in white, 4GB. It was completely paid for with a Sharper Image gift card that I received in a raffle. They don't even need my credit card number.
A few days later, I received a package but it was a black 4GB nano. I immediately called them and explained that it was the wrong color. I told her that it for my nephew's birthday which was in 3 days. She immediatly sent a white 4GB nano out via FedEx overnight. I was told to mail back the black 4GB nano. I packed up the black nano and gave it to my co-worker to drop off at FedEx. About a month later, my co-worker came up to me and apologized to me because he had forgotten to drop off the package and it was just sitting in the corner of his office.
I called Sharper Image and told them what have happend and they said not to worry... I did eventually ship it back.
Come to think of it, if I didn't ship it back, they had no way of charging me... The only remaining balance on that gift card was like 2 or 3 dollars...

excludes Bose products. (as well as Sony,

However, it's pretty easy to get around that restriction.
(if you know what I mean)

I called last night. 45 minute hold time and then a 14 minute conversation. The customer service rep told me he could request a new set of headphones be sent to me. However, it would take 10 days for his request to be processed. If succesful, the headphones would then be shipped.
I asked to speak with a manager. None was available immediately, but he said he'd have one call me. One did call back a reasonable amount of time later. She was able to send the headphones and promised they will arrive this Friday or next Monday. While not perfect, that's acceptable. They do want the cd player back which is fine as long as they understand I'll make it available for pickup but will not bring it anywhere. No apology was given for the dispute your credit card charge response in the email, but I didn't press for one.
I'll post a follow-up when I get my headphones and/or two additional cd players. Either way, I'll buy from someone else next time.

I just used the 100$ off 200$, it worked on an item for 199$. I bought one of those iTower speakers, I was looking for an ipod type speaker system, and thought I would give this one a try.
For 118$ delivered, I am pretty darn impressed. As would be expected, the spacial seperatation does not compare to getting two stereo speakers more than a couple of feet apart.
that said, the sound is quite good! I actually think it will get more use than I expected. Nice thing is, it is a straight up speaker so can be put just about anywhere. I'll stick it outside, in the office, bedroom, just stick it in the corner and go.
Comes with a nice remote, that asjusts treble and bass response, quite WELL actually.
It also has RCA jacks for other input sources and speaker input jacks, in case one wants to hookup using other componants.
Sound from the subwoofer is pretty darn decent, all is all, 7.9 out of 10 stars

I also got one of those $100 off letters in the mail.
Have you received your order yet? If so, could you tell me
how does the $100 off appear? Does they simply reduce
the price of the product or is the $100 treated as a
merchandise certificate? Thanks for your help!

Call them and ask for the FedEx tracking number.
I'm willing to bet that they won't remember to have
the extra CD player picked up from you. Make sure
to check your credit card statement carefully to see
if they charged you again for the headphones.
I like The Sharper Image, only when they have stuff
that are not priced and actually work well.... The
company always gave me the impression that one
dept has no idea what the other dept is doing.
