Is there software that will?
Scan my music DVDs(ripped wma/mp3 s) and randomly snag songs to create playlists? Be even better if you could tell it what size memory card you were using and it pick enough to fill it full
I like all my music, so any that got put on the card would be good to me

Windows Media Player will do just that.
It'll import all your music, and you can tell it to make a playlist XXX large.
FWIW; iTunes will do exactly the same but it will only work with un-DRM'd WMA's
Coming to think of it; EVERY decent media player will do this. Did you try any of them before asking here?

I believe you might have misunderstood what I was asking.
I have my CDs already ripped. I just store them on DVDs(compnay was frowning on 16GB of space being used)
And yes I know how to create a playlist,.
What I'm asking is, instead of having to manually create a playlist and then copying it over to my SD card, so I can play on my Treo. Is there a program that will scan those DVDs/harddrive and randomly pull 256/512/1G/2G worth of music off.
Does that make more sense now??

And yes; Media Player will do that. Even though it is meant for the PocketPC, this guide should tell you exactly how to do what you want:

I just tested it with my Camera's SD Card in my card reader, and it worked just fine.

One thing though; I'm not 100% sure how WMP will behave if your collection spans multiple DVD's. I'm pretty sure your library can be on one disk, but I'm not sure how it will behave if it is on multiple disks... Could present some errors...

Thanks ScottC
I was aware of that.
I guess what I'm looking for is RANDOM picks-different albums/artist- Never know what is on the card till you start playing
I don't believe the way shown does that. The playlist that get created by the above groups everything(I belive) by artist
Though I guess I could use the shuffle feature on my Treo
I was aware of that.

As said; I just made a 256Mb playlist with a random selection of my 26000 tracks. Works like a charm.

Sure not as straight forward as it could be(but it is MS), but got it done. Had not played around that much with playlists.
Now ScottC can you tell me if there's any way to prevent it from copying folders, so that only the song goes on the SD card

I use Predixis MusicMagic Mixer. A limited plug-in version is included in winamp.
It scans your music and builds playlists from there. Note you have to build the playlist and then send to winamp/itunes. However, it does do (IMHO) a good job. The full version allows you to set a MB limit to the playlist.

TOOLS > OPTIONS > DEVICES > Select the drive you copy the files to (your Treo or your card reader) > PROPERTIES > and then disable CREATE FOLDER HIERARCHY ON DEVICE
Any more questions?
