PocketPC and Smartphone contacts sync for Thunderbird...
Sadly no calendar (yet), but by using a program from WebIS and Plaxo you can now do an OTA sync of your contacts:

And FWIW; I'm not going to use it because I hate Plaxo more than I can possibly explain. But I know some people here on FT use it, thanks for the occassional email Plaxo sends me asking if my info is correct

When I started at the new digs, I simply launched Plaxo, incorporated it into my new Outlook and voila, I was set to go!
Subsequently I put Goodlink on my Treo (we have a Good server), and voila again, my contacts were all in the device!!
It worked nicely for me! Were there other options, sure, but this was smoooooooooth!
FWIW, most of my contacts (1100) have no problem updating their info; I use that option rarely, however...you can control it!
