Does Sirius work Internationally?
Title pretty much sums it up. Going to Italy in Jan, wondering if Sirius would work over there. Tried searching on FT, nothing found. Tried looking at Sirius.com but it wouldn't load properly.
|
Nope. Siruis "birds" only cover the US.
|
Interesting question, since Sirius satellites are on an inclined elliptical orbit, not geostationary as one would expect, and thus overfly other parts of the globe.
However, as pointed out, they do not broadcast when not over the CONUS. More details here |
Ok, then, how about XM? Any chance it works internationally?
|
Looking at that website, looks like Internationally yes, if NAFTA is international. Well, guess I'm hauling a bunch of CDs with me.

Your only option is to stream Sirius over your laptop and broadband.
There are other more complicated ways involving a 3G phone, a PDA and some software that would allow you to stream Sirius when you are roaming the streets of Italy, but that is getting way too complicated. |

I know XM is expanding (just launched a Canada based subscription). I thought I remember reading that XM and a "World Radio" signed a deal to allow use all over the world, but I do not remember the specifics. Sorry. |

Due to satellite orbits, XM and Sirius are only available in North America (except online). |
