Looking for a printer: moderate cost & affordable toner???

My Mom wants a printer. She doesn't need a printer

I found this printer -- HP PhotoSmart 7450 Color Inkjet Printer. Printer price is good ($50)....but toners are expensive. This seems the typical case with the printers

If anyone has come across a decent printer (for low use) that has affordable toner cartridges -- I'd LOVE a recommendation

Observations:

1) That's an inkjet printer. It uses ink, not toner.

2) Beware of cheap printers. Their consumables generally cost more than the more expensive ones.

3) Beware that ink will in time dry out. Low volume users sometimes end up throwing out cartridges that have plenty of ink left because they won't feed anymore.

If you don't need color, lasers are generally a lot cheaper in the consumeables department.

Samsung has some nice small laser printers. I use one and am pleased with it. It was 1/3 the cost of a similar H-P laser. They go on sale periodically at ecost.com etc for $50-$70 and are great bargains.

I agree with MisterNice, that Samsung laser printers are very nice and affordable.

I've gone through a couple ink-jet printers and got tired of fumbling with the ink cartidges. I go through a cartridge so often that I realized that upkeep would be cheaper if I went for a laser printer. Laser cartridges are more expensive, but they last for thousands of pages instead of hundreds.

Here's a Samsung ML-2010 for $69.99 after rebate.

My husband loves laser printers. I will reconsider this. First, I have to convince her that she doesn't need color

Of course, we have one that is several years old that we could 'retire' to her....but I think she is in the "new" mode

Thanks!

I picked up a Canon IP5000 earlier this year - it seemed to have the lowest cost per page around (at the time), and was less prone to jams with things like envelopes I've been pretty pleased with it.
