t-mobile BlackBerry Internet E-mail "Upgrade"

So I have read about this "upgrade" 15 or 16 times, but I still dont get it. It seems like they are saying they are basically doing away with the Blackberry Web Client server and pushing everyone to enterprise, but that Yahoo (which I now use to forward to BWC) will become an eneterprise server if i so desire.

But it says nothing about how this transition will take place. And further, if I forward old email from BWC to yahoo, yahoo will simply ridirect it back to the BWC!!!! In the past i have not found a way to capture the email on yahoo AND have it redirected to BWC. Has that feature been introduced?

I spoke with T-mobile CS but they were as clueless as me.

Finally, at the end, it says :

There will be no storage space limitation on e-mails sent to your BlackBerry Internet E-mail mailbox ([email protected]), but those e-mails will be removed from the server after 30 days. You will have full access to e-mail content including attachments for the 30 days, regardless of the size of the files. After the 30 days, you will still have access to e-mails that are on the handheld, but not to attachments.
NOTE: this change ONLY affects e-mails sent to an address ending in @tmo.blackberry.net. Other e-mail services vary in their storage and time limits.
So apparently the BWC is NOT going away, but it is going to become an in-box only????

Uhg. This is such a classic example of 'if it aint broke, let's fix it...'

Anyone know somewhere on the internet this is being discussed in some detail???

The way I read it, the newest BB handheld e-mail setup software can now do what they used to need the BWC website for, so the website's being discontinued. I can't see where it says or implies that Yahoo! will become a BES provider or that everyone will need to use BES. I just got a 7290 because my 7230 died, and it has the new e-mail client which is a web application that allows you to do some of what BWC does.

I guess I ought to start by downloading the newest software, as they suggest.

this is what i mean about Yahoo becoming more enterprise-like:

All Yahoo! Mail accounts, including free accounts, are now supported. No need for Yahoo! POP3 access to get your Yahoo! Mail delivered.
E-mails to your Yahoo! Mail account are "pushed" to the handheld in real time.
E-mails sent, received, or deleted on your handheld will reflect changes at the original e-mail account – no need to manage the same e-mail account from two different places.
E-mails sent from your handheld will show the correct "Sent From" e-mail address, even with multiple e-mail accounts consolidated to the BlackBerry device.

Couple of things:

1) The Webclient service will stay; just not through the web anymore. All settings can be changed either on the handheld or in "my-tmobile".

2) Yahoo is becoming a true "push" provider, just like you fill in a third-party account like Gmail or your own ISP, when you enter Yahoo all their mail will be pushed to you with no delay.

3) The T-mobile website does have quite a lot of info on it:

It sounds like the only change is that the push feature that has always been available on yahoo paid accounts will now be available on free accounts. But are they saying that deleted mail on handheld will now reconcile directly with yahoo (hence my confusion over whether yahoo is becoming an enterprise-type server)?

The thing that is nice about having the BWC is being able to access email and attachments easily and read and respond when 1) I am in my office where I get no mobile reception and 2) when i need to type faster than i can with my thumbs.

I feel like they are driving me to an enterprise environment, whether I like it or not.

The way I understand it things like yahoo mail will now just operate like gmail has. I don't think we are being pushed to anything. Could be wrong.

Indeed.

Check this thread and download "bbreply"

Personmally, I think the best enhancement is that they are doing away with the stupid 10MB limit on your BB email box. That limitation has been nothing but problems to me... :)

That never really was a hard limit; a simple call to T-mobile data support would move it up to 100Mb. I've had 250Mb for over a year now.

There is a better way than BBReply, and you don't have to download anything. see:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/show...ighlight=gmail

Read the entire thread for how to set up Gmail to work with your Blackberry. It works perfectly for me.

But many people (like myself) want several from: addresses on their device. Sometimes I'll want "from gmail" and sometimes "from corporate". That is what bbreply does.

As for gmail, a simple forward is the best and fastest option...
