Ease of Travel with VOIP?
I have been receiving flyers from a company called Sunrocket that has a really great promotion going on ($199 for a year with free phones) and I was wondering if anyone uses voip when they travel? I see that you can take the hardware to any internet port and use it as a phone which would be great for most hotels these days. I would prefer it to a computer based voip because I can also use it as my home line for a lot cheaper. Anyone have any recommendations or advice? Thanx!

I've used Skype on four continents so far. Works like a charm. Never a problem. Granted, I haven't tried it with dial-up, but supposedly one of its selling points was that it deals with slow connections better than other VoIP systems do (or did). No separate phone; I use a standard headset to keep sound from my computer's speakers from feeding back into its microphone.

My girlfriend's mother has Sunrocket and has been having call routing issues like crazy. That and they have a stupid name.
Doesn't Skype have a X-Ten based soft client now?

We (our company) wanted to use Vonage for our travel heavy folks, but had to balk after too many routers fried while overseas (unfortunately, in the US they only offer 110v models). Obtaining a converter from the hotel which would step down voltage was annoying and often took an inordinate amount of explaning when dealing with hotel staff that did not speak English fluently.

I have mulled over all the info in these voip threads and I think I am going to get Sunrocket (btw - I like their name and their website is so clear and straightforward). I am a bit hesitant about Vonage's contracts with activation and cancellation fees. Sunrocket does not have these and I spoke to customer support and they will refund any of the unused annual money if I cancel before a year is up. So it will be a good trial. Hopefully I won't experience problems, but I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanx again.
