Firefox Blew up

I've used Firefox since version .8, and my 1.06 just blew up. It asks for a user profile, and when I select default, it stops loading. I've tried reinstalling but no good. I'm actually writing this message from IE. BLeech

Have you tried de-installing it prior to re-installation?

I finally got it reinstalled. I downloaded a new executable file and tried again. I lost my previous extensions and bookmarks.

I've had this happen twice recently. When I reboot the computer, it comes back up in perfect shape.

bookmark

couldn't really understand to which posts, your yes, no yes, post applied, but if you are using the bookmark sync, that has been the cause of this for me on about five installations.

If you're using a Windows OS, did you check to see if the firefox.exe process was still running in your task manager even though your Firefox browser was completely closed? Every blue moon it crashes on me and when I relaunch the browser, it asks me to pick a user profile. I just cancel out of that, and kill the errant firefox.exe process in my task manager. After that, everything works like normal again.

Yes, this happens on occasion. It blows up but leaves part of itself running. Kill the offending task from the task manager (processes, not running applications) and everything's fine again.

You all need to start running Mozbackup once a week or so...

It'll backup everything (settings, bookmarks, extensions) and put them in a nice file ready to restore if needed...

Works for Firefox and Thunderbird

Dear rb911 My personality(default), or whatever they call it would not open. "was in use or some such" I created a new personality(THE gerald), and opened FF. I then found and copied all my bookmarks into the new personality. Not in the program, but finding the file that held them, erase the file in the gerald personality, and copy the old default personality.

I'm a little bit suspicious of extensions or utilities that do not come directly from the mozilla.org site. Quite a bit more so recently based on things I see coming out of cert.org, their alerts and vulnerability summaries. ... Although right now I can't find the messages that made me think of this.
