Marvels of technology.

Urine-powered battery for cellphones, health test

Does it belong in Travel Technology or OMNI? Let the moderators decide.

Imagine needing to use your cell phone, but the battery is dead. So you look for an isolated spot and recharge your cellphone. Even better, if the technology can be harnessed to do that, you find your car battery is dead and you are late for work. You pop the hood up and.........there you go. Got enough juice to get your car going, after you have gone, of course.

Imagine a credit card-sized, urine-powered paper battery that could make healthcare tests cheaper and even charge mobile phones!

Current biochips need an external reader such as a laser scanner or an external source of power, such as conventional batteries, to perform diagnostic tests.

The technology developed by Ki Bang Lee at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore, however, houses both the sensors and the battery on one plastic chip, reports New Scientist.

Would be quite useful. Out of power in the woods? Boil some water and NATURALLY replenish power supply a few hours down. Morarji Desai would be proud.

ROFL

...take your cell phone in the airplance lav and recharge before you land at your destination. Your laptop runs out of juice on the flight, head to the lav to recharge.
