I have an HP 5SI laser printer. When I got it, it just had the base 4 megs. So, I stuck a couple of 8 meg sticks I had laying around, and everything was fine. Then I upgraded with the Postscript simm, and it was still fine.

Then I added a duplexer, and it works great, but the configuration shows no buffering or I/O resource sharing. I guess it figures I've got too much stuff for the memory I've got, so I tried to add some more.

Every other stick I put in it, (4M,16M, or 32M) has either been not recognized or else comes up with an error.

I struck me that maybe all my old stuff (except for the initial 8M sticks) is EDO memory and I just happened to use some old FPM stuff.

I know, this is a rather esoteric question, but given the range of experience and the depth of knowledge here on FT, maybe someone out there actually knows!

Most of them will only use FPM. They tend to be really picky about RAM, and it needs to be 70ns or faster. The Crucial chips have always worked for me.

What they said. Most lasers are not the mix and match whatever fits wil work type of device.

As a followup: I found some sticks on eBay. 48 megs for $12.95 including shipping.

Work like a charm. Got all my buffering back, the whole bit.
