Question on a new digital camera

Yep, I did a search, but this is a relatively new camera and it didnt turn up much. Im considering the new Leica Digilux 2 digital camera. I would want it for travelling so size is a consideration. Im willing to get something a bit on the larger side to get better image quality and more manual control of the picture/camera. Does anyone have any experience with this camera or any knowledge about it? Im considering getting it rather than a digital SLR to be more portable. Any thoughts from people? Thanks for any insights.

I was thinking about getting the Digilux 2 last year. It's a really nice camera with great features and I like the retro design. It's an expensive camera and the price is perhaps the most common complaint about it. That said, I've spoken to people who feel that the D2 delivers value for the price.

After researching and re-evaluating my camera needs, I ended up getting the Lumix FZ10 and a Lumix FX7.

Leica developed the Digilux 2 in collaboration with Panasonic and the Lumix brand is a joint venture between Panasonic and Leica. If you want to save about $200-$300, bear in mind that the Lumix DMC-LC1 is essentially the the same as the Digilux 2. That said, it may be worth the extra money to get that special looking Leica body.

Phil Askey has a review of the Digilux 2 at dpreview.com and you'll find some user opinions as well. You'll also get a review of the LC1 at dpreview and more user opinions.

If you're interested in the LC1, the Lumix website is at
