Kodak Digital Camera Dead--Replacement?
My Kodak LS443 finally quit on me with the lens not being able to retract from the camera on power on. Kodak says they don't repair this camera no longer and has offered a replacement with the LS743 for $100 if I send in my broken camera.
The LS443 has 3x optical zoom whereas the LS743 has a 2.8x optical zoom (not really concerned with digital zoom as I can never steady my hand to take those shots).
Otherwise, aside from a few enhancements, they appear to be the same.
So, should I send the camera in for the replacement or look to purchase a new camera? I am looking for something a little more advanced for my photographic interests... (though I'm sad to part with the LS443).

Looks like the LS743 can be had for less than $150 all incl, shipped. So Kodak is basically offering to knock $50 off for your old one. If you decide that's the best camera for your needs, it looks like a decent option.
For the very small pocket digicams, I love my little Canon Elph. I have an S100 - one of the first in the line, about 5 years old, but I still use it for party pics and stuff like that. Takes great pictures for a little pocket cam. The newer ones all seem to get pretty good reviews on the major digital camera sites. They all price a bit higher - several models in the $200 range on the low end, then a bunch of small Canons (both Elphs and other) in the $300 range, and finally several of the top-rated point & shoots in the $350-$400 range.

I had the same problem with my Kodak LS443 last year. I managed to fix it myself and it now works a treat.
Perhaps give it a try yourself - though it has made me wonder if it is a common problem if Kodak are willing to give you such a discount

It's funny because I said to my buddy while in SF that I wanted to upgrade my camera. Then, it so happens that it breaks on me. Shame too, because the camera only lasted a year and a half.

I must say, if every corporation had people and/or executives like wharvey who are committed to keeping customers satisfied, the world would be a much better place.
Thanks again (and I will forever purchase Kodak products
)!
