Canon PowerShot SD500

I just ordered this camera. Does anyone else have this camera? If so, please give feedback. Thanks

I don't have it, but it's on my shortlist, along with the Canon SD400, A520 and a could others.
I'd *REALLY* like to get the Casio A505, but that's just out of my price range.

One thing I know about the SD series is that they will only take SD cards, which are not as fast as the current generation of CF media.
This would affect your ability to do rapid shot sequences or movies.

I on a PowerShot s230 (older version with fewer megapixels).

I find it to be a great daytime camera, but at night, the photos either get too grainy or the flash overwhelms because:
- flash is very close to the lens
- lens is small

That said, the size makes it a great camera to take around and take fun shots with...

A great choice!

I will definately let you know what I think of the camera. The camera matches my PowerBook! It's silver and it's called the PowerShot just like PowerBook . Thanks carlhaynes, YYCollie, and Jet'Dillio. I will be receiving the camera on Monday

had the predecesor

I had the previous one, the s500 which was a great camera, albeit a bit slower than I would have liked. This new one, with the digicII processor and USB2.0 support looks to be just the ticket, but I am waiting to buy the new 5.0 MP version of the s400, it is much smaller and lighter with the same processor and that is what I am looking for now, breast pocket sort of minimum 5.0mp camera.

let us know what you think of it though,

a nice review is already up at dpreview.com

Well there is now a newer version of the camera that is the subject of this thread, called the SD550. It has a larger LCD.

Honestly, the only major change is the 2.5" (vs 2") LCD display. This display actually makes the battery life a hair worse, and it's already somewhat worse than average for this class of camera. Other than that, the SD500 has been great. We've had one since earlier this year. Get an extra battery though, that's for sure, and a big SD card (make it a high speed card in case you decide to use the movie mode).

The specs show that the 2.5" display also makes the SD550 slightly thicker than the SD500. There are some other minor changes noted in this article:
