Apple Display with PB?

Hi folks,
I just purchased a 12" PB and a 20" Cinema Display. When i set them up, is there any way to get the picture on the screen to fit the screen but not stretch it? Right now it is either stretching or having a black line on the sides. Thanks a lot!

Change the resolution for the cinema display to its native resolution 1680 x 1050 pixels. Also turn off mirroring.

What he said.

Also, if you close your PB (i.e. sleep it), connect it to mains power, the Cinema Display and a USB mouse/keyboard, you can use it closed.

Why would you do that? It takes away from the dual monitor mode!

The key is the recommendation to turn off mirroring. Otherwise, you're trying to mirror a built-in screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio on an external display with a 8:5 aspect ratio. It's physically impossible to use the full screen area of both without distorting one or the other. You also can't take advantage of the external display's higher resolution if you're using it to mirror the built-in screen. (In some situations, such as making a system easier to use for a person with impaired vision, you might not want to use its full resolution.)
