In praise of the Apple Store markdown table

I must admit I hadn't been into an Apple Store in a few months before last weekend, but I am happy to report that I snagged some great deals off the new (?) markdown table at the Apple Store at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California on Saturday.

Among the goodies piled on the plywood table were mint-condition Aiport Express base stations for $79, Shure e2c headphones for $49, desktop keyboards for $20 and all manner of iPod accessories for great prices.

I was doing some heavy duty Xmas shopping while I was in SoCal, and can tell you that there is also a table on the second floor of the AS at the Grove, but as far as I know no table at the South Coast Plaza outlet.

Considering that Apple discounts are few and far between and the goods on offer are in great shape (probably just buyer's remorse returns) these tables are a real revelation to me. If only there was a 12 inch PB there...

Anyone else grab a great deal from an Apple Store lately?

No deals for me at the Apple Stores - the closest one is a 5 hour drive away.

I do get some deals using the educational discount - my wife is a physical therapist for a school system and I have a daughter taking some courses at the local uni.

If you don't mind going to a 'virtual' store, you may get very nice deals from the online Apple Store. There is, on the right side of the store home page a box that says 'Looking for a great deal'. They now have Airport Express cards, for example, for $69. They are reconditioned, but have a one year warranty. I just bought a G4 iBook (12-inch) from there for $799, also with a one year warranty.

BTW, if you live in Europe, you will need to have a friend or relative in the US who can ship it to you.

If you're in the area, there are also often great markdowns at the MacEdge stores in southern New Hampshire. It's often stuff that isn't entirely current, but who needs the latest version all the time?

Apple just had a "sale day" this last weekend, and it looks like you were there on the day that it took place. There was also an option to buy items on-line. I've never seen a mark-down anything at Apple Stores. If you want Apple mark down items you need to go to macmalldotcom into their clearance section.

Did they have any books on the table? PeachPit makes the best Mac books by far, and it would be great to get some on the table.

I just went to my local Apple Store to buy the int'l power adapter pack, but they don't have the table out anymore. It's all in the back, and you have ask for them.

i just bought a new 15" Powerbook G4, iSight, and AirPort Express. I recently went to the Apple Store in Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga, not much stuff on sale at the Rancho Apple Store on their Fire Sale Table.

It's neat, but IMHO a big rip off. Buy a regular travel plug instead.

They had some good deals on Black Friday.

I picked up a .Mac account and also a JBL On Stage speaker system for iPods as a gift (actually ordered that on-line). I almost bought an airport express. They were on sale too. Heck, even iMacs were $100 off.

Just got back from the Apple Store at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver... they were clearing out their demo PowerBooks and iBooks for $200 below list. Not deep enough for me. Also had six foot stacks of Epson printers for $99 and the iPod speaker docks.

I was at the Apple Store in Emeryville, CA, on Saturday, but saw no markdown table... the store was packed with Xmas shoppers, as well as audiophiles (myself included) checking out the sexy black and red U2 edition iPods and trying out the mini speaker systems/docks. I only go to the physical stores in case of emergency, or for a visual of something I plan to purchase online for a better price. OK, I also go in for the occasional droolfest... it's fun to play with the toys.
