Siemens S65

Well, its been about 9 months since I got a new phone, and the "itch" has kicked in. My current phones does not have a camera, and there's been a few occasions recently where I wished a had a camera for quick snapshots, etc.

I consulted the resident expert (Scott) and his recommendation of the SE K700i was in the running (though it uses Sony's proprietary memory stick for expansion). He also recommended the new Blackberry 7100T, but it didn't have a camera, so I started looking around.

I settled in on the new Siemens S65 because of my like of my older S55, its java ability, bluetooth/ir, camera, and rs-mmc memory expansion slot. Ordered it from ebay for $300. It arrived yesterday, and I'm pretty darn happy with it.

Just something to consider for those looking for a new world phone...

I have an older S46 that I have been pleased with. Not as snazzy as you "rich" guys can afford, but it works well.

Mine has some fairly serious firmware bugs, but the 1,3MP camera pretty much rocks. If you buy the DCA510 USB cable, you can do the firmware updates yourself. I just updated mine from v12 to v16 and the menus got quicker, the camera better in low light, and the file browser quit locking up.

There's a way to change the FUGLY icons as well, but I haven't figured out exactly how yet.

That looks really nice. How big is it compared to the S55?

It seems about the same thickness, and about 1/3 longer, all of it seems to be in the screen (which is pretty big). It can be carried comfortably in your pocket.
