Lingo VOIP ; first experiences

I jsut recieved my 30 day trial Lingo VOIP adapter.

Initial finds are that it's easier to get working than Vonage, but that it's sound quality isn't as good. I have clicks and "beeps" on the line every now and then.

I'm gonn give it almost the full 30 days and will make a load of international calls, I'll report back when I have more :)

Hmmmm... first reason I'd return it: It's caller id is number only, not name.

Have you talked with customer service yet?? I am curious how your tech support experiences are - I have heard mixed things.

They were "ok". I had an Indian lady trying to speak like the Queen...

She was friendly but fairly useless and looking up stuff took forever.

It's going back this week. I'm sticking with Vonage.

Currently testing 2 Lingo boxes here in GCM and have not had any issues with either one. In fact, calls to our co-located Vonage and Packet8 lines work quite well when dialed from the new Lingo lines. Audio quality is about the same as Vonage, with Packet8 having a slight edge over the other 2. And you can't beat the introductory price that Lingo is offering for its service.

I cancelled the service today, sound quality is poor, as is their customer service.

Their plan is extremely cheap, but it's obvious that that comes with a cost.

So far I'm very content with Vonage and will jsut stick with them, despite having some issues with their 911 service (when I tested it it was answered by a non-emergency number).

I'm getting the lingo equipment next week.
Got a call from a friend using lingo and talked for half hour. The voice quality was pretty good.

Will try it out as well for one month.
Was anyone able to get the initial fees waived?

I had to pay the initial 39,95 but that should be refunded as I cancelled within 30 days.

Do any of these US-based VoIP services allow international call forwarding? I wish Vonage would let me forward calls to my French mobile. You would think it would be a good revenue generator for them, but maybe they are afraid of fraud?

WIth Lingo or any of the other VOIP services is it possible to get two apaptors, so one could stay at home and the other be taken on the road for the same phone numer?

Not according to them, but Vonage does offer a software based adapter for $9.99 a month extra (with 500 minutes). With that on your account you could use it with a standard SIP based VOIP phone (hardware).

Got lingo setup today. Called UK and US. So far the voice quality is pretty good. Except for the negligible initial lag after call setup.

Despite some of the comments here, the new Lingo Universal number sounded too good to pass up. Therefore for the last two days I have tried to order, but can't and get the following message on the second sign up page:

Page Flow Unhandled Exception
Exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException
Message: java.lang.ClassCastException@8259eb

Not too good, huh?

The Lingo folks have some very ambitious growth plans and on their website now they say they have the ability to give you numbers in many countries around the world with more to come. Some other plans that can't be discussed yet will be great for frequent fliers. But the proof is in the pudding and they have a lot of execution to take care of to get this all running well.

Have made several calls to UK, USA and Canada.
The voice quality is pretty good still.
No dropped calls so far.
I'm liking it.
