Is there a C:\Documents and Settings\Gaucho100K\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads directory? If so, go ahead and clear that out. FWIW, I have Windows XP pro and I do have a C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data directory.

C:\Documents and Settings\Gaucho100K\Application Data\Symantec

but under the Symantech directory, I only have the following sub-directories:

REG_UNDO

and

Shared

nothing like "live update" or "downloads"

Do what I did 4 years ago, get rid of Nortons completely, it is a worthless piece of software that causes more problems than it fixes. I have only been hit with one virus or worm in the last 4 years and that was the most recent sobig worm. If I have any suspected problems I run www.avast.com which is just as effective as Norton and not as much of a pain in the ....

Norton and AOL are the most intrusive pieces of software to install on your OS and the most dificult and time consuming to take off, they populate your registry like no other software I have seen.

If u really want to avoid virus and worm attacks do what some friends of mine have done; they bought computers from Apple.

I quite Norton and now I use AVG Antivirus. It is excellent and there is a free version which runs almost the same as the paid version. (the difference being the way you clean up viruses). At the end of the day - free and paid work fantastic. see http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

I second that. And this is exactly what I told the OP of this thread to do, dump Norton and move to AVG :)
