Question OT: Google Adwords

I run a simple website for my sister's business, giving a quick overview of the stuff she does - screen printing, leather interiors, leather folders amongst other things.

Being a technophile I think that one way she can develop new business is to get decent visibility in Google, which would rely on using adwords since there's little chance of getting a high ranking bearing in mind Google's methods and algorithims.

She's not convinced, and thinks that it will cost her 10GBP a click for no return.

Does anyone have any experience with adwords? I know that horses for courses, but I wonder if the CPC for my sister will be nearer 5p than 10 quid.

Any advice for or against? Thanks!

We spend several thousand a month on them, it takes a lot of tweaking but once you get the right balance of keywords it is a very efficient way to advertise, but as always it also comes down to what you have to offer and how you offer it i.e. the text of the ad.

The price is extremely low per click so she's going to be much closer to 5p than 10 quid. If she runs a small specialist website like that the total cost per month will be 10 quid. Just make sure you start with a small budget, as it's easy to run through all your ad runs in under an hour if you get the keywords wrong

I do AdWords for a customer website and he finds them to be a cheap and efficient way to advertise.

One thing I've found helpful is to create a dedicated "entry page" for visitors who go to the site via Google. You can create several sites (one for each AdWords campaign you're running) and provide the different customer groups the info / advantages they want on the first page they see. This way the surfer will most likely stay on your site and explore it further.
