Using Portable Dvd Player On Ba Flight

Im in Buisness Class.
On a 777 LONG HAUL flight from DFW USA TO LONDON UK
I want to use my portable dvd player using the DC socket on the plane.
Its an AMERICAN DVD PLAYER
BA OFFERED TO SELL ME the required converter but at $180 per converter i declined.
Im told you can get these in the stores for around $50
Anyone know what i need,
Im told i need EMPOWER or something.
Im confused if i need any adapter plugs or converter plugs.
The DVD PLAYER im using is a 9 volt us machine.
Can anyone help please mail me at [email protected]
I cant order online because i leave THURSDAY AM
Thanks

That converter thing IS THE APC unit which often retails for $39.95 in the US. The BA duty free catalogue price is absolute robbery.

Pop over to Compusa and get yourself one of these:

http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...466&pfp=SEARCH

They convert DC (Car or Air) into good old 110 AC so you can use the DVD players existing adapter.

Check Targus

Others here can probably provide more specific information, but my suggestion is to go www.targus.com and type in Empower - the thing you need to check is whether there is a tip for your machine. It's based on the manufacturer and model number. The adapter/converter uses tips to connect to different types of machines - you may need to purchase it separate from the cord, or it might be part of the base kit.

They do not offer a tip for my portable DVD player so that is not an option for me (my battery lasts a little more than 4 hours so its enough to keep me occupied for a movie or two). I do use the cord for my laptop though and its great to be able to "plug" in on the plane. FYI, the plug also works in the cigarette lighter of most cars (at least in the US).

Good Luck.

Portable DVD Adaptor

Go to a local electronics store (or, if you must, Radio Shack) and purchase an adaptor that plugs into a cigarette lighter socket (I think AA uses this type of power).... just make sure the output matches what is written on your AC adaptor that came with the DVD player; (i.e. 9 volts, whatever amps). The electronics store should have various connecter tips available, one of which should fit your player. Then to connect to EmPower, buy one of these either from Magellans or do a Google search for "empower connector".
