E-book sites

I switched a while ago to using e-books rather than dragging hard-backs etc around with me everywhere. It takes a bit of getting used - reading books off the laptop or PDA screen - but I've found it worthwhile. I almost never run out of books when traveling overseas - that use to be a major disaster for me.

The first time I searched for decent e-books on-line, I got over 3 million hits and most of them turned out to be rubbish - you know sales ploys, internet marketing garbage etc.

So, I've started to compile a personal list of sites that offer decent e-books (some are free some are VFM). I've found a few really good sites (one great site that has about 20,000 classic books available for free download). But I'm looking for more sites if anyone knows some, please?

thanks.

Not Barnes and Noble, they sent a link to their affiliates today saying as of the 9th of September, they will no longer be selling them.

eBooks was the primary reason I bought my PDA.

Microsoft is giving away 3 free each week thorugh November. They vary from reprinted classics to new bestsellers. http://www.microsoft.com/reader/

Hi Guys,

thanks for that info - I think I'd found these already except the MS offer.

My own list is too long to post here, but I get asked for it quite often. So if you want a copy, just send an email to

mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A>

and the list will come back by return.

thanks again for the info and if you find any more sites, please let me know.

I know this is an old thread

But I am a fan of

www.fictionwise.com

They often have free downloads (like the 911 Commisison report).

Contrary to the name, it is not all fiction. You can specify areas of interest and they will send you targeted emails if you like.

Science fiction fans--at least once a year they have free downloads of Hugo or Nebula nominees....

I keep my pda loaded with reading material.

Jon,
Thanks for your nice offer. Please note that by posting your e-mail account, as you did, you're prone to get tons of SPAM, and virtually make that e-mail account unusable.

There are bots whose only work is to crawl the net in search of e-mails.

If you care post your e-mail as jon at domaindotcom - It'll make the bots work much harder.

Again, thanks for your nice offer and I did send you an e-mail
