Cordless Phone Question

Hi All,

I currently have a Panasonic 2.4 Ghz system, i.e. base station with answering machine and two stand alone phone units.

I am planning on adding another phone when I move to my new place, however I am tired of the Panasonic receivers. Too large, bulky, poor battery ..etc..

Question is, will another brand of cordless phone somehow interfere with the existing Panasonic ? I assume they should be on different frequencies, but does this work in real life (running different cordless phones in the same house ) ?

Thanks

J

It might. you'll just have to test and see.

My 2.4 GHz cordless phone has several different frequencies. Every time you pick up the phone it starts up on a randomly selected one of the frequencies. There's a button to change to a different channel if there's interference. I also have a WiFi PC network running on 2.4 GHz. Frequently the phone will come up on the same channel as the PC netowrk - the phone works but the network drops right out for the duration of the call. I suspect your two phones will behave the same - OK most of the time but occasionally they will collide (but I think only if they're both in use).

You may want to consider one of newer 5.8 GHz cordless phones for a second unit. It won't interfere with your 2.4 GHz phone (nor your WiFi, for that matter).

wow, very interesting points, PD Henry, thank you. I have a wi-fi network as well and have had no interference as yet, wouldnt really want to risk it by buying another 2.4 Ghz phone. I didnt even realise they could interfere with Wi-Fi.

Regarding the 5.8 Ghz phones, do they actually have significant better range than their 2.4 Ghz counterparts ?
