Burn CD's at Internet Cafe?

I generally take 100 to 200 MB of digital photos per day when travelling, transferring them to a laptop in the evenings. I would like to lose the laptop, but haven't figured out how to store the photos.

Do any/many/most internet cafes permit you to transfer photos into their computers by USB cable and then burn them onto a CD?

It may vary from country to country, but in London I even found it difficult to print a single piece of paper. Most of these cafe's only allow very simple surfing of the net, i.e email check..etc.. A lot of the big ones i.e. Easy Everything do not even have staff on hand to even ask about such a thing.

Somebody may be able to advise you better, but I am pretty sure it is not possible.

However, I would love to see the looks on their faces when you whip out your USB cable and start trying to plug it into one of their machines...

Buy a PDA that uses the CF card, then transfer the CF card to the PDA...

Or buy a 2 GB CF card...

Some branches of EasyInternet have 'office supplies' shops sharing the same premise. They aren't part of Easy but live off them for exactly that reason. I know the one on the Strand has this set up.

Costs: A body part - typically an arm or a leg.

I think your laptop is still a good arrangement.

The easy everything stores will let you burn CD's but they have a nifty protection system that deletes anything THEY think MIGHT be illegal. Don't try burning MP3's, video clips etc... and always ZIP and password protect your exceutable downloads.

They also have USB ports, get yourself a DRIVERLESS usb memory key and use that.

The key word to look for is "STORAGE CLASS." You should be able to find a Storage Class USB reader for your camera memory card for around $30.

Many smaller Internet shops will advertise a service to burn your digital photos to a CD while you wait. I guess that many can read CF, SmartMedia and Memory Sticks, but if you have an unusual memory card (SD or the new XD that Olympus is using) it's a good idea to have a Storage Class reader so any shop will be able to read it.

Storage class works with Windows ME or anything more recent, but not Windows 98.

I don't know about international, but Kinko's just announced they will be putting Sony Picture Station Kiosks in over 800 locations throughout the US over the next 6-8 months.

In addtion to creating prints, these kiosks will also allow you to transfer your files to CD's.

The laptop has a burner already...the problem is that it weighs so much. I can do email with a PDA, and would have no need for a leadtop, err, laptop, if I could store all those megabytes of photos.

I have this one:

Which works great but the company had gone out of business. But I think you can try eBay...

Another (cheap and small) option is a Zio USB reader with IBM 1Gb microdrive

What about:
1. Archos multi-media jukebox with photo module - www.archos.com - play MP3's and view MP4 video.
2. Ultralight notebook
