cables needed for laptops

We're flying South African business class this summer ATL-JNB and back thru to JFK. I believe there are power ports but that you need to bring your own adapter cables for your laptop. Does anyone know which ones to get that would(hopefully) work on all airlines which have this feature? Thanks in advance.

Normally the empower ones cover all the 12/15V systems. The connector is either an empower connector OR a cigarette lighter. I believe SAA has an empower connector

Some carriers like SK/LH have a 110 volt plug in premium cabins. All you need is your standard notbook power supply.

Try here: http://www.xtendmicro.com/

Other mfr's like Targus also make empower compliant power supplies. I would really try to get a set that you know has been tested on your notebook to avoid any potential long term problems.

Check the manufacturers website first, a lot of laptop makers sell the portable adapters themselves, that way you can be sure they back the quality of them.

If you talking specifically about power on the aircraft, check the airlines web site or the airline itself. They should be able to tell you what they offer and what you need to connect. Empower is the standard.

If your also talking about using laptops in other countries, check out web sites like

For adapters or other equipment.
