Amazon AWS Billing?

Anyone knowledgeable on AWS billing? My parents have a Synology NAS in their basement, and for the last couple years I've used Synology's Glacier Backup app to back it up to AWS Glacier, the storage option for people who want storage but don't necessarily need timely access to their data. Until maybe earlier this year, it reliably cost about $2/month to back up maybe several hundred gigabytes.

Over the last several months (maybe since Jan-Mar? I'm not sure) the price has slowly but steadily increased. I just got a bill for $12, for example. How can I figure out why it's doing this? I thought part of the issue (if not the whole thing) is that it seems my sister's laptop is backing up to her share on the NAS and there is a ton of data on there. I deleted all the previous backup versions, so those should have dropped out when it backed up last night but the cost doesn't seem to have changed when I look at the billing amounts and I"m just not sure where to look.

Any help?
THanks!

I thought the expensive part of Glacier is retrieval rather than storage?

Is your sister doing a lot of file restructuring and reorganizing? I wonder if some moves and sync's are resulting in more retrievals.

Does the AWS Cost Explorer or Billing Details provide any insights? https://console.aws.amazon.com/billi...#/costexplorer My bill shows the breakdown between Glacier storage and S3 - PUT/GET/DEL commands & storage costs

Thanks, yes they do and I think I've figured it out. THey show that the only thing changing is that the amount of data stored has gone up. It turns out my sister has been backing up full images of her laptop to the NAS. It went from storing a few hundred gigs to 2.5TB. I've deleted a bunch of old backups and gotten the storage down to about 300 GB. Synology's Glacier Backup app help says that they will delete old files after 3 months to avoid the charges Amazon levies on deleting files newer than 3 months. I guess we'll see what happens in January!
