Keeping currency when browsing ??
Using Chrome - when I search for hotels each site resets the currency to my present location. I reset to the currency of the country I am looking at (eg Japan), but then it reverts to my location again when I change to another search (eg trivago to booking.com , etc) Is there any way around this without a VPN?

No, because each site is run independently of its competitors' sites. Multi-national websites display prices in whatever currency they think you want to see, usually the currency of the country where your IP address is located.
If you log in to the sites, you can generally set a preference, e.g. when I go to Booking.com it shows me prices in Euro even for a hotel in the US or Mexico but as soon as I log in, it respects my preference to see local currency.
That said, 95% of the time when you've chosen a hotel and go to book, it will display the price in local currency and you'll be charged in the hotel's local currency regardless of what currency the search page showed.

Thanks that was what I was afraid of - so annoying! Even when I reset the currency it would reset itself to my location - wish there was an option to always display in local currency of the property!

I'm assuming you're trying to use exchange rate differences for your gain (this is FlyerTalk, after all!)... but if it's merely just currency differences you're wanting to know, the Opera web browser automatically will convert displayed prices to a currency of your choosing when you put your mouse over the #.

Thanks - not so sophisticated I'm afraid - just trying not to have to do multiple exchanges in my head (eg one site quotes in yen for Japan, another in USD and another in Malaysian riggit (when I'm in Malaysia)) for the same hotel - didn't know this about Opera - but also would be useful when trying to use BRG for various hotels
I'll have to look in to Opera

FWIW, here's more info on that particular feature: Convert and conquer the web | Opera
