Looking for a UPC Scanner/Database App for iPhone

Wondering if anyone here knows of a good, simple app that uses the iPhone UPC/barcode scanner [using RL Classic, QR Reader, etc.] to create a simple, searchable database.

Specifically, I want to scan all of my Blu-Ray and DVD discs into a searchable database on my phone so that I don't keep buying discs I already own. At 500+ discs and counting it's getting too hard to keep track of them all in my head.

Thanks.

If nothing else, you could use a barcode scanner (I like ManateeWorks' Scanner app) and paste UPCs into a Google Sheet in the Sheets app.

The other day a friend recommend an app called DVD Profiler Pro.

Seems to be exactly what I was looking for: Built-in barcode scanner or you can enter the title manually. The app then shows every entry they have for that title; DVD, Blu-Ray, special editions, etc. You can even specify to look for discs from any country or a specific country or region. The app also provides a high res thumbnail, that can be enlarged, of the front and back covers of the disc, as well as all of the disc data; release date, country, cast, crew, synopsis, etc. If you turn the phone horizontally you can then swipe through just the images of every disc you have and then click to open that entry, similar to Apple's iPod interface.

The app's database of discs seems pretty exhaustive. They had every one of my 560 discs in their database. Not just titles mind you, but the exact version of the discs I have down to the cover art, release date, etc. They even had "The Hire" in their database which is kind of amazing. "The Hire" is a collection of short films by high profile directors and actors that was commissioned by BMW and given to buyers in the mid 00's.

The app lets you organize your library alphabetically, by format, etc. and is also searchable by the same parameters. You can create sub databases and keep all databases both locally and in the cloud. The app also has a robust "wish list" feature that lets you record discs you are interested in and you can scan a disc's barcode while browsing in the store and it will tell you if you have that disc in your database, whether you own it, or if it's in your wish list, etc. You can also un-nest multi-disc titles.

The app also has a feature that shows all upcoming releases and when the disc will drop in each country/region. It also allows you to make a notation of when and to whom you have loaned your discs and you can set a reminder for when you expect them to be returned.

Each entry also includes links to published reviews from respected outlets [NYTimes, Variety, etc.] as well as a link to a video trailer - either the studio's official trailer or to a non-infringing youtube video.

You can also create wholly custom entries for non-commercial discs

All in all seems like a very robust app and is exactly what I was looking for. Thus far I have only found two issues, one of which isn't the fault of the app.

The first drawback I have found is that when entering a title manually you have to spell the title exactly as it appears on the disc. For example, if the disc title has "and" in it, you can't use an ampersand or vice-versa. You also have to input all commas, apostrophes, exclamation marks, etc., and the app will not "anticipate" or populate a list of possible titles after typing the first few letters or the first word or two.

The other flaw [which likely isn't the app's fault] is that if the distributor [or retailer] puts their own barcode over the disc jacket code or if the studio uses a non-standard length code or format, the app won't find it and you have to search for the title manually.

All in all, seems like a great app for $2.99.
