Migrating data from my external drive to my new MacBook Air

I just turned on my new MBA to get started with the setup and I am on the "select the information to transfer" screen. The external hard drive is now plugged into the MBA and 4 of the 5 files have spinning wheels to the right of their names while at the bottom, the word calculating has been showing for over two hours. The 5th file with my name on it shows the number of gigabytes being transferred I assume.

I've two questions. Can I just hit the continue button at the bottom of the screen or must I wait for all the files to be transferred? If I have to wait, can I leave the MBA running the set up and do errands and return several hours later?

Thanks
