I'm currently running Fi on my development phone (Nexus 5X) and I've noticed that here in SD, it's almost always on T-Mobile. That's probably for the best though because Sprint isn't all that good here. Haven't tried to use Fi elsewhere yet.

But T-Mobile coverage in/around SAN and Coronado is borderline unusable. I always got solid reception and speeds up in La Jolla.

Data SIM usage reporting
My wife is on Project Fi, and I've been considering ordering a data SIM on her account for my international business travel.
My question is around usage reporting. Does Project Fi provide any sort of report that breaks out the data usage and charges of the data SIM? I would need something like this for expense reporting. |

UPDATE -- Just took a closer look at the bill. It does get broken out and in quite a bit of detail. |

The data expenses are the same so there isn't a reason to break them out. I just got back from SAN->SFO->HKG->SIN->HYD->BKK->TPE->SFO->SAN on a 9-day trip. I used data in every location. My bill for last month was a bank busting $34.89. So you may not need to expense the thing. Compared to Verizon, that's noise.
UPDATE -- Just took a closer look at the bill. It does get broken out and in quite a bit of detail. Here is my question, for $34.89, that includes $20 Fi basics, $2.39 taxes & regulatory fees (give or take), may I assume data used is 1.25Gb approximately? |

Yes it does including detailed reporting on combined, voice, primary SIM, secondary data SIM and on daily usage.
Anyone have any recent experience in Singapore? (My initial searches are turning up almost universally negative experiences.) |

So it's been a while since I've been out of the country. This time I was thinking it would be a good idea to go with some kind of data connectivity.
What would you folks recommend for starting with Project Fi? I'd prefer to keep it as cheap as possible, while still being able to rely on things. The current "compatible" phones are the 5x, 6, 6p, and pixel. I'd probably be buying used or whatnot. Right now, I'm leaning towards the 6p because of the reports of bootlooping issues on the 5x. However, I'm open to any input people may have on that. I was also considering the 6, but was worried about Project Fi potentially phasing out their support for the 6. Thanks! |

Anyone have any recent experience in Italy? The one mention in this thread is positive, but I've seen other mentions that are less so.

If you want as cheap as possible, don't get a pixel. I'd avoid the 6, just because it's older and close to the end of general support (reportedly it won't be getting android 7.1.2), but I haven't seen any rumors of Fi phasing out support. The 5x is cheaper than the 6p. I'm very fond of the 6p, but there's no guarantee any phone won't have a problem. If you read, for example, the reddit forums, all of the nexus phones (and probably every other phone ever made) are terrible and have major issues.
Yeah it's starting to seem like a 5x vs 6p thing. I guess I'll keep watching for any good deals. It's unfortunate that the nexus devices seem to have issues. Even the nexus 7 tablets had a lot of problems. It would be nice if Project Fi were open to more devices, but I can see why that is the case now. |
I really want a dual SIM phone that was compatible with Fi or at least an HSPA bluetooth dongle.
Different Topic. One thing that drives me crazy about Fi is that its coverage stinks in Windsor Ontario which is twenty minutes from house. It takes hours to switch over to a Canadian tower. I told a colleague I'd call her as soon as I crossed the border because we were meeting for lunch. I had no cellular signal. It took like 45 minutes to lock onto a Canadian signal and I had a ten minute delay relocating on a Canadian tower after it momentarily grabbed a US TMobile signal from across the river. |
Aren't you able to manually select which network you'd like to operate on? I had to do this with fi my first time in Qatar as the strongest signal gave horrible data speeds but my friend's phone on another network was blazing fast. Took about a minute total.

I just did a quick search on the 5x issues. It is hard to tell how many 5x phones are affected, but when they are affected it appears to be BAD. |
