Internet Browser Abroad Question

Hello My Fellow FTers -

I need some help - I tried to google it and I can't seem to find it. I want to log into some websites from my hotel room in Mongolia (like Netflix) and it won't allow me because of the country I'm logging from. I remember being able to get on to any website with a specific internet browser...I can't remember the name. Can someone here help me?

Thanks!

UG

You either need to set up a proxy server which routes your browser's traffic through e.g. an US IP. Or log into a VPN.

I've never come accross any browser that does IP shadowing or whatsoever on its own.

Without vpn - for Windows 7 or 8, try (it might or might not work) using latest Chrome or Firefox as your browser, download Hola Better Internet and install as your extension/add-ons, restart browser and try again. With Android tablet/TV Box or Linux, try using "Set DNS" (free app) - also, change your router/adapter settings with DNS, use "open dns" instead of google or ISP"s default ones to bypass geoblocking via your ip address.
From Mongolia, you might also have the great (fire)wall of China blocking or filtering - ok in accessing BBC, CNN and other popular US/UK sites?

Only if OP is specifically located in Inner Mongolia (part of the PRC). Otherwise, Mongolia is an entirely separate country that once was part of the USSR. Other than proximity, it has nothing to do with China.

My VPN provider, VPN.ac - who I can't recommend enough - offers a Chrome plugin for exactly this if you don't want to hassle with full VPN access.

Any VPN should allow you to do it, and use any browser you want.

We have no trouble using the VPN from PrivateIntenetAccess.com when in Ulaanbaatar. Afaik, the only way to get Netflix from outside of the USA is to be connected to VPN.

Try using the Hola Unblocker addon for Firefox to surf "from" the country of your choice.

Was it Tor that you were using? I either use that or a VPN.

Since we're now talking about VPNs, let's do that in the main VPN thread. Thanks!
