Question Help with my printer, please!

I have searched the threads and did not find an answer, so I thought I would pose this to the FT community.

I have a Canon MF 4370dn printer/copier/scanner/fax connected to a switch. Our computers at home are a Macbook Air, mid 2012, and an iMac 27 inch mid 2010 both running Yosemite.

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but it seems as though every few weeks, the printer stops responding. Usually, I can reinstall the printer and am back on my way, but this time, I just cannot get it to print. If I try to install it, I see it listed in Bonjour. But whenever I send a document to print, it hangs up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it. I have downloaded new drivers from Canon. I have tried both from my Air and the iMac without success.

I cannot find the USB cable to connect it directly to my router (I just changed from a Linksys EA6500 to an Asus RT-AC68w, but the issue was present before the change.)

I do notice that the ethernet light on the switch is amber rather than green. Could the ethernet port be bad on the printer (I have tried changing the ethernet cable without success)?

The machine can send and receive faxes.

This has happened so many times that I was going to just replace it and almost bought a Brother laser multifunction a few weeks ago for about $120, but then did not, and now everything is much more expensive. As an aside, any suggestions for a multifunction laser that includes fax, wifi, and duplexing? Brother seems to make good ones at relatively reasonable prices and with inexpensive toner replacement. It would be nice to be able to print from my phone or ipad as well.

I'm going nuts with this. Help, please! Should I try to connect it to the USB slot on my router?

Thank you in advance. And happy new year, all!
