At least with most modern versions of Windows, the display configuration will be remembered as you move from monitor to monitor. I have my Lenovo T420 configured to extend the display across its internal panel and an external 24" display via DisplayPort at one work location and a different 24" external monitor via DVI in a different location (both equipped with docking stations). The relative position settings are retained at each location.

How is your impression of the Surface Pro 3 now that you've had it for a few days? I'm thinking of getting one to replace my iPad and my laptop at the same time.

I just went with a SP2 (8GB i5 with 256GB). I wanted it because the SP3 is a little larger than what I wanted for portability and I figured now or never on SP2 as supplies dried up.

I'm pretty happy with the setup - particularly for travel.
