Laptop Speed Question when using Facebook

This has happened both at home and in a hotel last two weeks.

When using Facebook and only Facebook, my browser slows to a crawl. Takes forever to scroll....

Only happens with Facebook... no other sites. Happens on IE, Firefox and Chrome.

Tried a virus/malware scan... nothing.

Any suggestions? Anyone else finding this problem?

Any chance the slowdown being caused by pop-ads in FB? ......./Plus might help speed things up, if you aren't running it already.

Typically it's because some script is running and taking forever. Often it can be related to one of the ads they like to spam you with.

Do you notice that some elements on the page take a while to load?

Try this: In the run box, type "iexplore.exe -extoff" (no quotes)

That'll start IE with no add ons.

Facebook's just too busy harvesting everything about you, your browsing habits, your machine contents, etc., to spend much processing time on the actual UI.

Bingo.

I've said it before, but no one should run Facebook without

a) Chrome or Firefox running the ....... Plus, DoNotTrackMe, and SocialFixer extensions; and

b) Turning off ALL Facebook apps. They are evil.

This seems to have helped...

So, stupid question... how do I reenable an add on? I have one that I need to add back...

That's your biggest problem right there.

Switch to a modern browser like Firefox or Chrome and use ........ Everything will speed up.

You'll have to start IE without this switch to turn all of the add-ons back on. Then follow the info above to selectively turn off add-ons. Let us know when you find the one giving you the problem.

Thanks.... I had known that... for some reason, I cannot get a toolbar back that I use for RoboForm.... it tells me the add-in is enabled... but it will not let me click to add the toolbar back. Strange.

Very strange. The trick I gave you lets you start IE without the add ons, but should not change the behavior of the add ons that are used.

I have 2 shortcuts on my task bar - one with normal IE, one with this change. I don't have the RoboForm add on, but I've never seen it permanently disable another add on.

The obvious thing to try next would be an uninstall/reinstall of the toolbar. You may have to back up/export settings from RoboForm first before doing that.

IE11 isn't bad at all. I definitely jumped ship back in IE6 days. Went to FF, then to Chrome. I was doing a lot of web design back then and I would dread coding a website for customers who specifically targeted IE. I recall flat out refusing a job once over that debate. However, I've been testing out IE11 for a while now and I'm impressed how much IE has improved. Scores a perfect Acid3 test and has very responsive Sunspider scores. It still lags behind webkit based browsers at HTML5, but adoption of HTML5 is rather slow anyway. It would be my daily browser if I wasn't so entrenched with Google services.

I use IE11 and was very happy until just recently.

I just cannot get rid of this slowness... but it is not just IE, I have the same problem when using Firefox and Chrome.
