iPhone/iTunes Backup Question

Dear Experts,

My partner was trying to back up his iPhone this morning to his laptop. Turns out he has run out of storage space on his laptop... so we need to move/backup the iPhone to an external drive instead. Probably a good move overall anyway, no need to have all that on the laptop.

Is there an easy way to accomplish this task? I could not find a way to change the settings to redirect to the G: external drive.

Appreciate any advice.

Not sure what iTunes will do if he tries to sync his phone without the drive plugged in, however...

I would also say it's time to clean up his laptop's hard drive. If it is that full, then he is going to have other problems, likely slowing down as the OS tries to find places to put needed files, etc., etc.

Free iCloud services are helpful:

1. I use Box, free 50gb storage to store my music
2. I use Google Drive for photos and books
3. DropBox for important backup data to access via iPhone, iPad and my Mac.

PS - Forgot to mention that google play is also available for bot Mac OS and iOS so sync your iTunes music to the google play cloud, also free! That gives you multiple backups! Plus in my case, can access same library on my Moto G seamlessly!

I back up to iCloud.

But if you have a lot of media on the phone, it won't upload those.

That is it will back on photos taken with the phone but not necessarily photos you've taken with other cameras nor your music.

I did just this last week, and had no problems.

Backup iPhone

As far as I am concerned, using iTunes to backup iPhone is fast. Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone to the computer. After the phone being detected, click the backup icon and you can choose to backup your data to iCloud or "This computer".
