Is offline editing of Google Docs possible in iOS?

Title says it. I have found places on searching that say yes and places that say no. I seem to have found both answers at Google sites even. When I try there is "Edit" in the upper right corner but it is greyed out and doesn't work. Is it possible on Android devices? We are trying to use Google docs more but offline access is a bit of a problem. Thanks for any help.

seems to work fine for me in a spreadsheet I have there, in both safari and chrome. Just select a cell you want to edit.

Did you try it?

Yes, I tried. And I tried again after this. I had been going to Google drive and trying to open from there. This time I tried from Chrome and it switched to the Google Drive app when I went to the Google Docs page in Chrome while offline. Still isn't working in either sheets or docs. Sheets did seem to give me the option of opening it in another application. What version of iOS are you using? Thanks.

the latest ios, I don't have the google drive app, it just opened it in chrome and also in safari.

Make sure you own or have permission to edit the file. That's all I can think of. I'm selecting the 'owned by me' tab on the top of the page in the browser first.

What do you mean by offline? I'm connected via wifi when doing this. If you really mean offline access I think you would have to export it from docs/drive and edit with some other program and then import it back later when you're connected to the internet. That model is not all that conducive to sharing with a group.

This seems pretty clear:

The Google Drive app for iPhone and iPad lets you view items you've stored in Google Drive with your device even when it isn't connected to the Internet or a mobile network. Offline editing isnt currently supported.
