Local SIMs are the best bet but this is great for transits and short visits where getting a local SIM is either a pain or just doesn’t make sense. I use it as my dual SIM secondary line so occasionally if I’m in a dead spot on the primary I can toggle and get data where I’m at. It’s generally a great thing TMO offers that the other big carriers don’t. If they could just get rid of the 50% rule it would be hands down fantastic.

The One PLUS international was double of the old ONE speed of 128kbps... which means you would get 256 at most... as far as I know. When you run out of your 5GB you can simply add a data pass from T-mobile or get an eSim from Airalo (if your phone does eSim/Dual sim). I've used T-Mobile and or Google FI all over the world with very few issues and will say it has been lifechanging. That said before they threw in the 5GB high speed for free, I would always buy the 15GB pass when I was on T-Mobile. With FI of course that wasn't necessary as you have basically 22GB (back when I used it) of high speed.

The 5GB high speed deal has worked out well for me. Sometimes significantly faster than hotel wifi (recent trip to Thailand where the wifi at an airport hotel would slow to a crawl during the evening).

I had been wondering if the 5GB was on a per country or per trip basis and clarified with customer support that it's based on billing cycle resetting every new cycle, so I actually got 10GB on the trip.

I was also able to confirm it is per billing cycle on my last two trips.

Another perk T-Mobile has provided over the years is free lines every once in a while. I have accumulated four, and each of them gets the 5Gb of HS data roaming. I mention this since T-Mobile currently has a FREE LINE PROMO running for certain plans. I am maxed out at 12 lines so I do not qualify. I recommend contacting T-Force via Twitter to check on your plan eligibility for this promotion. From what I read on Reddit, some users are charged the new, $35 "Assistance Fee", some are not. You can always ask they give you an on line credit to cover that charge.

I have been with T-Mobile for years, but was unaware of "free lines" offer. How do you know of the offer, by spam mail, text or ...?

They typically are discovered and discussed on T-Mobile Reddit with quite a bit of discussion and information. It is a very popular forum and each carrier has a quite a following there.

Another point I'll bring up regarding the T-Mobile international data service is the use of IMS for dual sim phones. The current selection of dual sim phones is growing. Those who are considering or already own one can enable a feature that reliably gives free voice calling to and from US numbers to other US numbers anywhere (215+ Countries) TM has included service. This has been discussed at length on this and other forums, so do a search if this appeals to you for travel. Especially if you can snag one of the Free Lines I mentioned earlier or already have a spare line to use for the IMS function.

If anyone would care to update the wiki with up-to-date roaming partners, that would be great. I added OPTUS for Australia (it seemed to prefer OPTUS which was great, as they have better coverage and speeds than Telstra).

Orange no longer exists in Switzerland. I don't think 3 SE is still around either in Sweden.

So I am still chilling on "Simple Choice". This is going to get me free, throttled 256k in Span and France, correct?

I think it may finally be time to upgrade to a newer plan, for the real High Speed data....

Yes, that's right.

Pleased to report that my Simple Choice plan got 5gb of high speed data in Germany - free. This appears to be a Magenta perk extended to Simple Choice plans. This is in conjunction with Deutsche Telekom so Spain is not included.

"Plus, customers get the same experience of 5GB of high-speed data in 11 European countries — Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania and Slovakia — on Magenta, most business plans and equivalent Sprint plans thanks to T-Mobile’s partnership with Deutsche Telekom."

We had a Solis Lite international hotspot for my better half which worked extremely well.

FYI, free lines all require you to pay taxes and fees. Its not much, but since I really don’t use them for anything I am really just wasting $20 or so a month.

If you are on a Taxes Included plan such as my ONE plan from 2017, then as the name implies, all free lines are truly free of taxes & fees also. I have 4 and they are very useful for an extra 5Gb of high speed international data roaming each amongst other uses. This feature is included in the "ONE Plus Promo" attached to all my account lines.

Is there any way to real-time measure what data usage of international add on plans? I'm going to do the 15GB for $50 soon for ease of travel and would like to monitor usage so I don't run out. The last time I used it, there was no good way to monitor until it started sending warning messages about data running out. Would be nice to know before I got there!

I haven't found an automated way. I have downloaded the usage data and parsed everything via a spreadsheet, but I don't know of a quick way to check.

Thanks. Sadly. Not in their interest to do so as they want you to burn through and buy it again for more data....

For some reason the process isn't sinking in - can anyone help me follow a step by step plan to enable my TMO number on 'digits' before I depart the USA, then while roaming abroad, be able to receive and make calls without any cost over data/wifi? Without having my number permanently transferred to the 'digits' app, so when I get home, I can remove that app and just use the SIM card normally.
