Monster Outlets to GO

I have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Outlets-Go-Pow...er+power+strip

It's electrical ratings are: 15A 125VAC 60Hz. Does this mean it cannot be used in Europe?

According to the first Amazon commenter it will, provided that whatever you plug into it can handle 220v. (It does NOT work as a transformer.)

Personally, I wouldn't have risked trying that...sounds like he contacted Monster to ask, though.

Interesting. I didn't look at the reviews. I decided to email Monster myself. Their own FAQ does say 100-240V

I got around to reading the reviews in a pretty convoluted way.

Anyway, you'd think Amazon would post the allowed voltage in the Specs section, especially for something small enough to be used for travel.

I have an Outlets to Go power strip just like this one. I contacted them a few years ago and they verified it is OK for 220V (even the USB should work). That has been posted prior on FT and the info is on their website:

Q: What are the specifications for the Monster Outlets To Go Power Strip - 4 Outlets?
Asked on 2/28/2013 by Monster Customer
1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A: Electrical rating: 100-240V, 50-60Hz
Length of attached power cord: 1 ft.

A bit redundant of me, but I've used one in 240v countries for years. Just be careful about how much current you put through it: watts=volts x amps. Double the rated voltage and you halve the wattage at the same amperage.

Keep in mind that Amazon normally have multiple similar products for these at varying prices - and those prices can change on a day-by-day basis.

eg, this one which is basically the same thing only dual-branded as Monster/HP is currently a few dollars cheaper than the one listed above, but that could be different by tomorrow...

It's Monster. The same scumbag company who makes Monster Cables. Vote with your wallet and avoid them like the plague. http://www.voltagevalet.com/prod_aplug/PS2.html buy this instead. http://www.jet-setter.ca/en/travel-p...-with-usb.html in Canada. If you want Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Voltage-Valet-.../dp/B003I3LSJ8 here.

They make the best Cat 5 cables around. Of course, they try to charge $20 for them, which is outright silly. But Frys had them on sale last week for 99 cents each - which is even cheaper than the chinese stuff on ebay - and I bought a handful of them.

So you're suggesting a product that costs over twice as much as the Monster product, due to the fact that Monster overcharge people for their cables? Somehow that just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm no fan of Monsters selling practices, but they do make good products - if the price is right. Normally it's not, but for these specific products it normally is.

I used to carry around a Monster Outlets To Go but have switched to the lighter/cheaper Leviton cube adapter.

http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-692-W-...8567340&sr=8-5

It helps that I have no need to plug any wall-warts directly into it, only AC cables.

Domestically, I have that coupled with a home made 1' extension made with lamp cord (less bulky than a traditional extension cord). When I go to a country with 220v, I take the Monster.

Who cares? There is a point to make and that point is to boycott Monster in cables, outlets and everything. Monster Cable is a patent troll and also it bamboozles customers into paying ridiculously priced HDMI and other cables. I am very happy to spend a few dollars more to, as they say, vote with my wallet. There's no point to be made if you just buy the cheapest regardless who makes it. I am calling out in case people do not realize that this is the same company and they should also take a stand.

Why boycott them when a vendor is selling their product as a loss-leader, as Fry's did in selling their Cat-5 cables for 99 cents last week? Of course, I am happy to boycott them when they sell product at their normal absurd prices.
