Google Chrome update results in bigger menus
I think Chrome updated itself last night. Suddenly, all the menus - bookmarks and the Chrome menu - show a lot more space between menu items, causing menus to scroll off the screen. Very annoying.
I looked around and some people said that it was because Chrome thought I was suddenly using a tablet, and to disable the Tablet PC Input Service. I checked, and the service was not started. It was set to Manual mode. So that probably wasn't the problem.
Then I found someone who said to add a command line switch to the shortcut I use to start chrome. So, I added the switch --disable-new-menu-style. It worked fine. Now my menus are back to their normal compact ways.
Anyone else experience this?

They increased the spacing because people using touch screens and tablets were saying the items were too close together to choose with a finger, so they added some space between them.
It was very good of them to give those who didn't want the extra spacing an easy way around it.

It's annoying that they make this decision to help the UX of a certain class of users but that this decision screws up the UX of the presumably much larger user base that doesn't use tablets.
Surely there should be a way to automatically determine if Chrome is running on a tablet or PC and adjust the menus accordingly.
Color me annoyed.
