Internet in the sky?
I recently returned last night on a flight where the "GoGo Inflight" service was offered. As a frequent flyer I have a monthly subscription however many passengers on the plane will buy a "pass" for just their flight.
Last night after 10k feet the service was available and encouraged for use by the airline I was flying on. The service worked fine however the flight attendants wanted to finish their work early before landing and therefore annoucned that all electronic devices to be turned off. The problem was that were were still at least 20 minutes before approach! When some passengers complained the flight attendants insisted all devices be turned off without thinking about what they were doing to the business end of this industry.
All of us frequent fliers (as well as my son, who is a Captain of a airline) are aware that our electronic devices are NOT going to interfer with a pilots ability to fly. However to encourage the use of a product or service (in this case GoGO Inflight), have the passenger pay for it, and then to cut the service short for their convience is wrong at many levels. When will this stop?

Welcome to Flyertalk.
Not really sure what turning stuff off has to do with finishing their work early. If the Captain says stuff needs to be shut off then stuff needs to be shut off. You may be 20 minutes from approach, but it's not the time from approach the determines if things can be on and off.
